Dressing the Rectangle

In this posting, let's discuss the dressing needs of female with rectangle body. The classic characteristics of a female with rectangle body shape includes:

relatively straight body with little waist definition,
a boyish frame that appears athletic.
bosom tend to be small or regular sized.

If you have a rectangle body, you should always aim to:

define your waistline,
create curve on your top & bottom & add dimensions to your body structure,
break up the boxy rectangle body structure by avoiding the use of rectangle shape in your clothing silhouette.

With a boyish boxy rectangular body structure, it is important that you avoid wearing a dress that is straight-cut or overly baggy & shapeless. This is because the straight lines running down the sides of your silhouette will further emphasis your boxy body.

Here are a few pointers to note when dressing up your rectangle body shape:

Define your waistline

Wearing a belted dress or top will help break up your boxy rectangle shape. If you have a petite frame, a thin belt will suit your body frame. For taller women, you may like to explore thicker belts.

Use patterns to break up boxy body shape

Pumps it up!

Browsing through January 2012 issue of Simple Her magazine, this article really got me excited. I love pumps! They are classic, elegant & timeless. And for this season, platform pumps with bright & bold hues are the wardrobe must-have.

Here are few snapshot of my favourite pumps...

Even though neutral colour pumps belong to the last season, it is still my wardrobe staple as black, grey, brown & caramel go well with almost everything I own. Meanwhile, I shall keep a lookout for new pumps with bright colours. Hmmm... is it going to be striking cobalt blue, dramatic magenta, sexy red or unconventional violet? One thing for sure, It's going to be a tough call & I will be spending hours at the mall deciding.

Dressing for the Winter

Living in a tropical country situated along the equator, I can't remember the temperature of Singapore ever falls below 25 degrees Celsius. Weather in Singapore is often hot and humid, & many of us can be rather inexperience when it comes to dressing for the winter. Being a veteran who travels very often, I lately have received a number of queries on how to go about dressing to combat the harsh weather, at the same time look fabulous.

I remember my very first winter experience was not a pleasant one. It was my very first work trip to Chicago & Amsterdam. I must say winter in Chicago is terrifying for someone who do not have any prior experience of winter. I had froze my brain off & did not enjoy my trip... sad to say, not a bit despite the fact that Chicago is a very beautiful city.

In this posting, I shall share with you tips on how to dress up for your winter holiday, at the same time keep yourself warm. I am sure looking good is important as you will like to take as many pictures & enjoy the cold as much as possible.

Here are some of my favourite winter jackets in my wardrobe.

I tend to keep my winter palette neutral, because by doing so it enables me to create as many looks possible by mixing & matching every pieces that I bring along in my suitcase.

P.s. I enjoy travel light as this gives me the baggage space to lug shopping loots back from oversea. Especially when travelling to America... they are super strict with baggage weight & I often exceed weight limit ;P

Sweater is a nice outerwear as we can easily layer them underneath our jacket with a simple T-shirt. If the weather gets warmer, this can be worn alone without jacket.

Thermal top... I will only put on one underneath my top if the temperature falls below 5%. As you can see, I have thermal tops ranging from long-sleeves to short sleeves & camisole. Personally, I prefer the camisole than the other 2 options. Firstly, it hides well under most outfits. Secondly, most malls, restaurants & public transport are well heated during winter. Wearing long-sleeves thermal may be a little too much.

Here comes my winter tops. Again, I like to keep the colours neutral & design simple so I can easily mix & match them creating maximum looks from minimum outfits.

I often buy my winter pants a size bigger so that I can accommodate a pair of stockings underneath. If the weather gets extreme, I may even squeeze in 2 pairs of stockings.

I love boots & I only go for leather. Fabric boots do get wet & cold may seep through your footwear making you less tolerant to the harsh weather. On the left, you see a pair of wedge boots. That's my favourite pair if I need to do lots of walking. Wedges are less stressful for my feet when it comes to long distance than a pair of boots with high heel. Wearing layers after layers tend to make me appear bigger than what I actually am, & I need height from my footwear to give a slimming effect.

Scarves are my favourite winter accessories and they are usually my accent pieces. On the left is my furry affinity scarf & its gives fine & soft texture to my look. I adore it's softness. On the right is my leopard print scarf that never fails to enhance my look, not forgetting it is a must-have for this season.

When the temperature goes below minus, I would suggest muffs & gloves too. You may like to bring along some heat packs which are available from Daiso or 100yen shop... though I must admit I have never try a heat pack before.

I am so excited to have found my Warehouse bomber jacket with fur collar on the Internet & managed to create some winter looks for your reference. In the below picture, you see the leather jacket shared between 2 looks. On the left, the torn skinny jeans give the overall a funky look. On the right, the dress and cardigan accentuate feminine yet modern feel.

Here's another piece that I own, the Evil Twin faux fur jacket. By the way, all my fur collection are faux as I can't bear to wear the animals on me. Anyway, the workmanship of faux fur can be very exquisite that I do not think there is any need to kill the animals to look good & keep ourselves warm.

Shearling jacket layered with a sweater, shimmer sleeveless & a thermal top. Matched with a micro-mini skirt and black leggings. A leopard scarf adds an interesting touch to the overall look while the YSL Arty ring further enhance the contemporary look.

That's all I have for this posting. I hope that I have given you ideas on how to look amazing during this cold season, at the same time keep yourself warm enough to enjoy your winter holiday.

Dressing the Triangle

Woman with triangle body, you have a lean upper body and tend to be heavier on your bottom area. The good news is being heavy on your bottom tend to be less noticeable as people focus more at their eye level when communicating with you and this brings their attention to your upper leaner body instead.

The triangle shaped body is also commonly known as the pear shape.
The characteristics include:

- Shapely waist

- heavy lower body with round hips & thighs.

- width of hips significantly wider than shoulders.

Let's take a look at celebrities with pear shape body...

Here are some dressing tips which you may find useful:

1. draw attention to your upper body & face.

You can achieve this by wearing bright colour top or anything with great detailing. So your top is all about details, details & more details. Bold design or pattern, glitter, attractive hues, or one that comes with beautiful textures with great style helps to draw attention to your lean upper body & face.
Don't forget the use of beautiful necklace & earrings help you achieve this result too.
Choose tops with necklines that balance your bottom, & these include boat neck, V-neck, scoop neck. Tops with horizontal detailing over shoulders helps to create a illusion of broad shoulders & this works in your favour to balance your triangle shape body. For this reason, wearing a top with strong shoulder line helps to define your upper body, making it shapely while sloping shoulder lines will diminish your upper body throwing your overall off balance. Hence, a structured top will look better on you than one that is shapeless (e.g. T-shirts).
Avoid baggy tops. They kill your shape!

It is important that you top ends at your hipbones or above, but never longer (unless you are wearing a dress). Most of you have a nice waistline which you can enhance by wearing tops that help to define your waist.
Outwear such as jacket, cardigan & vest for triangle should be cropped, & layering works extremely well for your body shape. You can opt for boyfriend jackets or trapeze jackets.

2. A-Line... make them your wardrobe staple.

A-line & mermaid dresses & skirts fit body shape best.

3. Minimise your bottom

Go for solid colours and minimise detailing on your skirts and pants.
Wide hems on your skirt & pants provide good balance for your body type.

Your bottom pieces should not come with pockets & flat-front design offers the best structure for your body type.
Elastic micro-mini skirts are your worst wardrobe investment. If you really want to go short on your skirt, go for something with structure & match it well with a pair of high heels.
Make sure they fit perfect with no visible stretching & pulling on fabric. Wearing outfits that are ill-fitting or about to tear can never be too pleasing to the eyes.

4. Elongate your legs as much as possible.

Compliments of the season! I hope that you have had a fabulous Christmas, & an enjoyable holiday.

Lately, I have been rather busy & therefore been missing in action in this blog. Apologies... so sorry for the slow blog entry! The truth is I was busy traveling for the past 2 months, covering Shinjuku (Japan), LA, Paris, London, Maldives, Seoul (Korea) & San Francisco. Exploring the various destinations was a fun thing to do, but not managing the time difference. Here are some pictures taken during travel:

Dressing the Hourglass

Women with hourglass body... you are blessed with the most sought after body shape. Your curvy body is an asset, while you have minimum flaw to downplay.

The characteristics of a hourglass body include:

- shoulders & hips share almost the same width measurement.

- a well defined waistline.

- bodyline is more curvy than angular.

- have an average to full bust.

- tend to have heavy thighs.

Here are the celebrities with real curves that make men drool & women jealous.

The message that your curvaceous body sends out is that of womanly & feminine nature, unintentionally. Hence, curvy women do need to take cautious against dressing overly feminine at work as this may leads to sending out wrong message & losing creditability in your workplace.

Dressing the hourglass body can be pretty easy if you follow these simple rules:

Emphasis your waistline
Outfits that show off waistline are the best for hourglass.
Some examples include outfits with a waist belt, peplum dress or jacket & wrap around dress.

Opt for open neckline
The more so for petite hourglass & anyone who needs to have that lengthening effect. Wearing tops with open neckline break up space above bust area giving the upper body a visually pleasing effect.

Go for bottom that elongates your lower half
Most styles of skirt suit hourglass body provided they drape well over their curves, have enough structure & end at the right length. This means that skirt hem should not end at the widest part of your leg and that would be the thighs or calfs. Instead it should end at knees, or slightly above or below. Avoid cropped pants as this tend to make one appears shorter, alternatively you can makeup for it by wearing platform high heels or pumps. Your safest bet would be boot-cut, straight-cut, slight flare & skinnies.

Wear heels but avoid footwear with high cover-up.

This includes flat lace-up shoes, ankle boots, ankle strap heels & high-cut gladiator shoes.

As hourglass tends to be heavy on their hips & thighs area, they may appear stout in their lower half. Thus, the main idea is to lengthen their lower half & shoes that come with high cover-up will only shorten the vertical illusion thereby adding visual weight.

Ironically surveys shows that we tend to see our flaw more evidently than our beauty. How often do we celebrate our individuality, give ourselves a treat by rejuvenating our body, mind & soul? Not to mention take some time to notice our uniqueness & make the effort to enhance our assets.

One way to embrace your individuality is to understand your personal body shape & dress up in clothing that best flatter your body. You will first need to know your body type by examining your torso.

Measure the width of your shoulders, waist and hips.

If you have:
Hips & shoulders width are balanced with a defined waist, your silhouette is most likely an Hour-glass.

Shoulders are wider than hips by 5%, your silhoutte is most likely an Inverted triangle.

Hips narrower than shoulders by 5%, your silhoutte is most likely Triangle.

Hips & shoulders balanced with little waist definition, your silhoutte is most likely Rectangle.

Torso & upper body wider than your hips with little waist definition, your silhoutte is most likely Round or Oval

The long-awaited Style Infinity's 'Define My Personal Style' Workshop finally took place on 23 Aug 11. It was a 4-hours fun-filled session as we help our participants achieve their desired image through learning some styling fundamentals, accompanied with an in-depth understanding of their personality style.

Mirror, mirror on the wall... what's the colour that best suit the ladies?

Learning about their personal body types help our participants understand what best flatter their body & downplay their flaw.

A participant was shown how a dress that better fits her body can make her appear more polished. Small alteration to outfits can help one look amazing.

Trap water on your face by moisturizing it within 3 minutes of showering. By doing so as soon as you finish shower prevents water from evaporating off your skin.

If you have dry skin, try cream moisturizers or oil-based lotion.

If you have oily or combination skin, put on gel lotion.

Products work best when you massage them into damp skin.

Getting to know how to mix & match pieces of outfits in your wardrobe not only enable you to create different looks & be versatile, you can also look good on a shoe-string budget without having to shop for trucks of clothings all the time. Let's take a look at how we can achieve different looks with just 6 clothing items based on the capsule of outfit below.

The most common questions I gotten from others after revealing my occupation as an Image Stylists are...

'So… am I warm or cool?'

'What are the colours that best suit me?'

Warm & cool colour theory is in fact the most basic and easiest way to define your skin undertone which can either be warm or cool, depending on the amount of melanin, carotene & hemoglobin that you have in your body chemistry. These components determine the colour composition in your eyes, hair & skin which could make you appear more harmoniously in tune to a certain class of colours than the rest.

As an Image Stylist, I have all the equipments in my studio to help my clients access their natural undertone, working from skin tone painting to using colour drape. Warm & cool undertone can simply be revealed by the use of metallic gold & silver drape. If a gold drape appears to be more harmonious & flattering on you, your undertones are most likely warm. On the contrary, if silver drape looks more flattering and in harmony cool may be your undertones.

No drape at home? Well, gold & silver jewelry can serve the same function. A good question to reveal your undertone would be what type of jewelry do you find more flattering on you? Gold or silver? If the answer is gold, you are most likely warm undertone. Cool would be your undertone if you prefer silver.

Base on these 2 images you see below, what do you think are the undertones of the models shown? Are they warm or cool?

Answer is...

The model in black dress has a cool undertone & therefore she needs colour with blue or violet undertone.

While the model below has a warmer undertone & she will need colours with yellow or orange undertone.

AICI Conference 2011 - Create Magic in your Image Business (19-22 May 2011)

The journey was long & draggy as I made my way from Singapore to Orlando for the annual AICI conference held in Orlando. Having travelled to America numerous times, this is my first to Orlando & it took me a record-breaking traveling duration of 31 hours. Yes & no kidding... 31 hours!!!

After such long a journey, I was really looking forward to beautiful hotel room & a really good shower. Peabody Orlando Hotel did not fail me... I was first 'wowed' by the professional & friendly service provided at the front desk when I checked in, followed by my huge beautiful room. Being a veteran in American & have had experienced countless of hotels, I was extremely impressed & I seriously could not recall having been to any hotel that is as beautiful as Peabody in that country.

It is a yearly affair as image consultants from all over the world congregate at this conference to share knowledge, acquire new skills, expand our business network & not forgetting make new friends. Clearly indicated in it's title 'Create Magic in your Image Consulting Business', it was indeed the most magical conference I had ever attended. Not only I had attained new & interesting ideas on how to conduct workshops, I had also gained new insights on how to formulate business strategies that will enhance my image consulting business.

One of my favourite workshop would be 'The Secrets for Turning Prospects into Paying Clients' conducted by image expert Ms Juanita Ecker, AICI CIP. As an image consultant, it is critical for us to learn the art of turning opportunities into sales in order to own a sustainable business. Ms Ecker's generous sharing in how to clinch more sales & turn prospects into paying clients is currently one of the most sought-after program by many professional image consultants.

Another workshop which I really enjoyed was 'Fashion Show Production' by Chris Fulkerson, AICI CIP, FFS. In this workshop, we learnt the rules behind organising a fashion & how to go about implementing one. Seemingly easy... but lots of work involved behind the stage & it could literally require the whole village of crew to get the show going. The hard work rendered is something the audience don't get to see... only the glamour. Having said that, I do hope that Style Infinity gets the opportunity to do one of these fashion show in time to come.

After 4 days of intensive workshops & seminars, it was finally the much awaited for Gala Night & awards ceremony. Every year during this Gala Night, AICI recognises the contributions & efforts made by both individuals & respective chapters to advance the image consulting industry as a whole bringing it to a higher arena. To acknowledge image consultants & stylists of their outstanding achievement, a number of awards in all different capacities were presented & these includes the Rising Star, Image Makers Merit of Industry Excellence, AICI Awards of Excellence, Jane Segerstrom Award & Chapter Member of the year.

And our very Southeast Asia Singapore Chapter won an award too & it was the Civility Star Award!!! Responding to the recent disaster that striked Japan, the chapter had initiated a 'Help Japan' Project as the board members decided to donate all proceeds gotten from the last Education Day to Singapore Red Cross. Good job Singapore Chapter!

Shopping in SFO Sephora, I came across these beautiful lashes which I simply could not resist buying. And right after buying, I was confronted with a reality question… how do I wear them & for what kind of occasion??? I do love fake eye lashes as they enhance eyes in a magical way but to wear them on a normal day, such lashes are simply too outrageous & dramatic.

I then decided to stage this Avant Garde Project gathering a model & photography, exhibiting creative makeup in the form of art. Here are the end results…

How about getting up close & personal with Genny, the Founder of Style Infinity?

Here's my recent interview with Working With Grace…

1) Why did you choose to become an image stylist/life coach and what do you love most about the work you do?

It’s a long story & the question ‘why’ brings us back to my childhood. When I was young, the Barbie doll was a huge fad. Coming from a less privileged family, I had begged my parents for the longest time before they granted me one. It was a huge bonus and that kept me happy for a while but not for long. All my peers had extravagant beautiful clothing and accessories for their dolls except for mine and she was dressed in that one and only outfit which comes with her when I first bought it. I then decided to make clothes for my Barbie doll using clothing that my sister and I had outgrown and could no longer wear. This gave me the idea of becoming a Fashion Designer when I was young. However, along the way I had developed interests in other subjects such as human behavior which explains my degree majoring in Psychology. Even though my childhood ambition did not come true, what I am doing now brings me very close to it as I help individuals dress and style themselves, and make them feel good about themselves.

Everyone can live life to their fullest and maximize their potential if they choose to. All women can be beautiful if they want to. As a coach, I love working with individuals and helping them achieve their goals. Stretching boundaries and challenging limits are part of the process. In every situation, there are always ‘take-aways’ and things we can pick up as long as we choose to be open.

2) What is your mission in Life?

Mission statement of Style Infinity… Giving people the empowerment that brings out the best in them.

3) What is one memorable experience you’ve had with helping a client with image styling?

Oh yes… One of my clients came to see me with the objective of wanting to learn how to manage her image and wardrobe. She had left the work force for more than 5 years after becoming a mother and has never updated her wardrobe ever since. She no longer dresses up as she finds it unnecessary. On one occasion she had entered a shop wanting to try an outfit, instead of serving her the sales girl had claimed that there is nothing in the shop that she could wear. My client was devastated that the sales girl had refused to serve her as she assumed that my client was not a sincere buyer based on her out-dated appearance. At that point my client had a job offer that requires her to play a management role in an F&B company & she was worrying about not being able to earn respect & manage subordinates.

While working on her image, we discovered her limitations and worked based on her beliefs & value system. At one point she even broke down & teared. All we had was 2 full days of consultation & coaching, not only did she experience a break-through in terms of how she looks & feels, she also identified her direction & now has a clearer understanding on her purpose.

At the the end of the session, my client told me the best thing I had imparted to her was to ‘love life… and life will love you back.’ She said she had forgotten what it’s like to look good. And indeed it made her feel so good about herself. I am delighted that our session had left her with a heightened sense of self-esteem, confidence & empowerment.

4) What can Singaporeans (esp. the ladies) do better in order to look their best everyday?

Good hairdo.
Have regular haircuts and make sure your hair is constantly in good shape. This instantly gives you a trendy & polished image. It will take you minimum effort to style yourself in the morning everyday if your haircut is a good one.

Invest in good wardrobe staples.
Wardrobe staples are everyday essentials and it differs based on individual’s lifestyle requirement. In order to establish a functional wardrobe, you need to build your foundation right by investing in the right wardrobe staples and basics that support your career & lifestyle needs. Getting to know how to mix & match these pieces will enable you to create different looks & be versatile without breaking your bank account. Our wardrobe staples are usually pieces that are timeless classics in which we would wear again and again . For this reason, it’s never too expensive to invest in good wardrobe staples that will enable us to look classically chic at all times.

Have a good understand of their body type, style and colour.
Looking stylish does not mean going for all the expensive luxurious goods nor do we have to empty our bank accounts. By knowing our essence colours, styles that suit our personality and types of clothes which best complement our body figure, we can avoid trial and error purchases that may end up as expensive fashion faux pas.

Practise good hygiene & grooming routines.
This is a given & I do not think there is any need for me to go into details.

5) How would you define ‘Beauty’?

Being beautiful is more than what you wear on the outside. It is your state of mind & your beliefs system at work. It is all about your self expression. This simply means that beauty is a combination of your outer appearance together with your inner beauty. Hence in my opinion, ‘beauty’ is about being kind & gracious, feeling confident in your own skin combined with knowing how to be fabulous at every age.

Dress Up (Part II) - How to choose the dress that best fit your body?

If you are a woman with an hourglass figure, you can almost put on dresses of any style and look amazing with minimum effort. Your perfect dress should be fitted and has a waistline in order for you to show off your curvy figure. This can range from any style such as wrap dresses, sheaths, belted shirt-dresses and full dresses. Do avoid dresses that are over-clingy as they may create unnecessary bulges, or anything that is too loose which do not do justice to your good figure. When choosing your dress, go for soft and medium weight fabric that drape well over your curve.

Women with rectangle bodies that resemble a boyish frame with very little curve on the waistline, you will need to create an illusion of an hourglass by selecting dresses with a waistline. You should go for shirt dresses with a belt, sheath or wrap dresses. The illusion of an hourglass can be further enhanced by broadening the shoulder with shoulder pads sewn onto the dress. You can also explore chic options such as A-line, empire and shift dresses. A bias dress that drapes well on your body can give you a beautiful silhouette as well. The last thing you want is to put on a tank or t-shirt dresses that are rectangle in silhouette as it will emphasis your boyish frame.

Women with petite frames, you should keep a look out for dresses that are simple without overwhelming detailing. Your dress should embrace define and simple silhouette. You can go for fitted wrap-around, sheath or empire style dresses. The key here is to avoid looking too heavy. Thus, visually heavy fabric, over-exaggerated prints, heavily embellished dresses and full skirts may not be your ideal. Dresses of monochromatic colors and vertical detailing are good choices for you. It is important that you keep your skirt hem at knee length preferably showing part of your knees. Any additional inches over your knees may throw you off your balance and make you appear less proportionate.

The biggest mistake I often see with plus size women is their attempt to camouflage by dressing up in voluminous outfits which add extra visual weight and do not help in creating any slimming effect. The solution here is to think vertical and not horizontal. Go for dresses with vertical detailing. Many would advocate dark clothes as a solution, but I do not think that dressing in dark colors all the time is the best thing you can do. Who needs the gloomy hues when you can replace them with cheerful and bright ones that can instantly perk up your image? In my opinion, your best investment would be a good girdle that allows your dress to drape beautifully over your body without creating any budge. This at the same time provides you with a better defined body shape. It is critical to ensure that dresses must fit you nicely and not wrinkle tightly across your body because tight clothing tends to make one look bigger, and not smaller.

Women can either feel blessed or cursed with a full bust. What you need is a good and supportive brasserie that helps in giving you a shapely body. V-neck, scoop neck and sweetheart necklines help draw attention upward towards your face. You should avoid any dresses with high necklines such as crow or turtle-neck. Dresses should have minimum detailing on the front to reduce attention to the chest area. A-line and tunic dresses will appear less flattering on your body shape. You should also avoid gathered sleeves and wide belts as these draw attentions to your full bust. You are suited for shirtdresses, wrap-around dresses and sheath dresses which come with skirts that flare in order to balance your full bust.

Women with a small bust can go for styles like empire dress and fitted sheath dress that help in creating more definition to the bust. With a lean and trim silhouette you can show off your body by dressing in A-line, shift and shirtdress styles. You can create the illusion of fullness by having details on the chest area of your dress. This may come in the form of ruffles or pockets. Dresses that come with a define waist can also help to create that illusion of a bigger bust. Alternatively, you can add a belt to your dress to achieve that illusion.

Women with a tummy, you should go for dresses that do not accentuate your waistline such as empire, shifts and A-line dresses. Dresses with matching jackets make good options for you too. You may also like to invest in a good girdle that helps in concealing your tummy under your dress.

Dresses allow women to show off their innate femininity without any guilt as it is solely our exclusive rights to do just so. Do you remember the simple, yet elegant black sheath dress worn by Audrey Hepburn who played Holly Golightly in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany? A poll conducted on 27 May 2010 declared that dress as the greatest female screen outfit. Created by Hubert de Givenchy, the dress first made its debut almost half a century ago in 1961 was sold for more than £400,000 in 2006. Withstanding the test of time and ever-changing fad, Hepburn’s top dress established the fact that age imposed no barrier to glamour. Most of us may not be able to splurge that amount of money on a single dress, but we do have numerous styles of dresses available for our selection that are within our purse strings. By understanding which style best showcase our individual figure, we can then pick those that flatter our specific body type and this certainly can help us look like a million bucks.

In the month of March, we were pleased to be invited by The International Women's Federation of Commerce to give a 2-days talk during their 1 week roadshow at Orchard Central. IWFCI is an association that aims to provide women entrepreneurs networking opportunities & resources to grow their business. Women entrepreneurs of this century is indeed playing a challenging role, in conjunction with juggling a number of tasks concurrently become our second nature. Chasing after our dreams & at the same time balancing ourselves on high heels, seemingly so easy & glamourous. Deep down we are all breathless, struggling to put on a charming appearance.

Other than work, women entrepreneurs fill up their calendar with networking & social events which are imperative in this competitive & fast advancing society. Social events & dinners are piled up right after work leaving us no time to change into our glamourous evening dresses. Sounds familiar? With that in mind, Style Infinity decided to present 'Transform your Look from Day Chic to Night Glam'. During this talk, we focused on how to dress up in chic professional attire for work & have that easily transformed into an evening look by exploring the use of accessories such as jewelry, scarf, shoes, simple makeup technics & change of hairdos.

Full house as all seats were taken during the talk! Curious shoppers in Orchard Central decided to join in as we offer tips on how to transform their professional chic look at work into evening glamour.

What's in for Spring 2011

Spring is coming and flowers are blooming everywhere. Their blooms are so huge and striking & we can see them leaping forth from designer's outfit.

In the coming Spring Summer 2011, we will get to see huge flowers much larger than life size invading the garments. Life size flowers are considered too small for fashion designers. Flower usually gives a romantic impression however the size of it in the current trend may induce a creative and edgy feel.

How can we integrate these flowers into our wardrobe and make it work for us?

1. The flower on your clothing should be the soul of your outfit. It should be the only focal point on your body. The other pieces on you should therefore be plain with minimal details. It will take a lot for someone to carry multiple prints on several outfits put together on one look, though I must say it is not impossible. If it is a floral dress that you are wearing, match it with a plain jacket (shown in the picture above). If it is a jacket with floral design on it, the inner outfit should therefore be plain.

2. Pick colours from the flowers and repeat it in your shoes and hangbags. In the example above, I had picked purple high platform pump and bag that are in the same tone as the flowers from the dress. This not only creates a harmony in terms of colouring, but also brings out the colours of the flowers in the dress by repeating it in other areas.

3. If it is a single flower on an outfit, make sure the design falls on the most flattering part of your body as the design automatically draws attention to it. If you have heavy chest and would not like to bring attention to it, avoid wearing striking flowers on your upper body. On the same note if you do not like your butt, you should not wear obvious print that draws attention to it.

4. Size of print should be in relation to the scale of your body, bone structure and even facial feature. If you have small body frame, floral print should be small to medium. For those with larger frame, the floral print on your outfit should also be bigger. Having said that, people with sharp facial features or exhibit strong characteristic may put on striking floral print that are enormous in size too.

This is the time of the year to embrace flowers in your outfit, so make yourself pretty and glamourous in the bloom.
